Judges Comments:

  • Beacon showed consistent verve and fluency. Their local journalism ( with good coverage of the floods a prime example) added a richness to the station that few others could match.
    |Sony Awards 2009|
  • The station demonstrates a good sense of locality with a small but committed team. The news coverage shows an excellent awareness of the priorities of the region and the news team emerges with great credit for their ‘Newsnight Specials’ which, also, reflect the concerns of the area.
|Nations and Regions 2008|
  • "Beacon Radio is holding its own in a tough market. Going back to local basics and providing sports coverage and commentary again has gained Beacon this prestigious award. The station is strong on social action programmes and campaigns and the the judges were impressed with the station's lively and relevant output
| Arqiva Awards
2006 |
  • The winning “Caught In The Crossfire” feature examined the circumstances surrounding the driveby killing of two young girls in the West Midlands. It was well written and presented and aimed straight at the Beacon core audience. It focused not just on the shootings but on the changes that took place in the community following the incident.
| Arqiva Awards 2005 |
  • "Lively, innovative and local... Beacon ... has a fresh and sparky sound ... Its production values are of a high standard across the output and it involves local people in interesting and unusual ways."
| Sony Awards
2004 |
